I know that I haven’t really talked about this particular card game as of yet, but I have dabbled with it here and there and I have tested out some products including the Onyxia’s Lair Raid Deck set, which I admit was a lot of fun to play, and so I started to see what new products had been released lately from Upper Deck ( the same folks responsible the VS game ) which I have also played and enjoyed, and I found a new raid deck set named Magtheridon’s Lair, and as soon as I have had a chance to play test this latest addition to my ever growing amount of CCG gaming stuff ( sorry dear, yes another thing that will be all over the house ) I will of course let all of you know my thoughts on the fun factor of this set.

Here’s another short post about Magic The Gathering’s newest upcoming release Shadowmoor
Okay, I have found a page on the Wizards of the Coast site that has a page featuring 15 cards, and just one of those cards has flavor text, which I only found by accident to be quite honest about it, so you can go to this page and some some of the pics of the new cards for yourself.
Another post about Shadowmoor to come tomorrow.
Magic The Gathering’s Next Set- Shadowmoor March 7, 2008
Posted by 54071 in : TCG & CCG Card Games , add a commentGood afternoon!
Well this is just a quick post with more information on this set to follow over the weekend but just in case you did not know the name of the next Magic The Gathering block to be released, it is called ” Shadowmoor “, and ( please don’t hold me to this ) if I am correct it is actually part of the ” Lorwyn ” block, which if you remember only had the releases of Lorwyn and Morningtide, and made me wonder what happened to the last set of the block…well may be this is it!
More to come…I promise…
Drafting Morningtide or My Winless Saturday Night February 4, 2008
Posted by 54071 in : TCG & CCG Card Games , add a commentAs always when a new block of Magic cards comes out, our little gang of players get together to draft, and so last night we did indeed draft the last set of the Lorwyn block called Morningtide.
Morningtide is a 150 card set, which breaks down as follows..
White- 28 cards
Blue- 28 cards
Black- 28 cards
Red- 28
Green- 28
No Multi-color
Creatures- 93
Artifacts- 6
Enchantments- 8
Lands- 4
Instants- 19
Sorceries- 20
Tribal- 18
Now, notice the last category, Tribal…
Tribal was something that was to make this block of cards more interesting and create a better synergy between cards relating to one another and actually working better together.
And so I decided to try this out and I went with two tribes, with the thought that each tribe would work in and of themselves, each tribe having their own synergy and with some pretty tough power cards.
There were only a few problems with my plan…
a) The first problem was I had chosen to play with less than a 50 card deck, and after losing the first round, I went to 60 cards adding additional land to the deck.
b) I actually wound up playing three colors…this wasn’t the worst thing…but it didn’t help the deck in the end, actually requiring me to add the extra land cards to the deck.
c) The worst offense for me was the Mana Curve of the deck, which happened to be no less than a 4 drop, which in the environment that I play in, which is usually pretty quick decks ( usually no less than a two drop ) pretty much was a recipe for disaster.
Some key cards I went for…
Green
Reins of the Vinesteed- Enchantment Aura
The mechanic of the card is that you would be able to attach it to another creature of the same creature type when it went into the graveyard.
Leaf -Crowned Elder- Creature- Treefolk Shaman
Kinship is the cards mechanic, letting you in the beginning of your upkeep look at the top card of your library, and if the card happens to be another card that shares the same creature type, you can play it for free.
Guardian of Cloverdell- Creature- Treefolk Shaman
When the card comes into play, it generates 3 1/1 white Kithkin Soldier tokens. It also has ” 1 Forest, sac a Kithkin and gain 1 life. gaining life is always a good thing.
Red
Roar of the Crowd- Sorcery
This card allows you to do damage against a creature or a player, based on the amount of creatures of a particular type, you do that much damage. This is your basic direct damage card.
Hostile Realm- Enchantment-Aura
You enchant your own land, and than when you tap that land, you select a target creature, and that creature cannot block for that turn. Great card to give yourself some easy damage points to your opponent.
Boldwyr Intimidator- Creature- Giant Warrior
This is a great card, but it will come out late in your game, unless you have a way to get it out early.
The card reads Cowards cannot block Warriors, and it has two abilities…
a)1 Red- target creature becomes a coward till end of turn
b)1 Red 2 Colorless- target creature becomes a warrior till end of turn
Spitebellows- Creature- Elemental
When Spitebellows leaves play, it deals 6 damage to target creature.
Another great creature, with 6 power for 6 mana, or to do the straight damage, you can play it for it’s evoke cost of 3 mana ( two red and a colorless )
Again, in the end for me, I needed to maybe play two out of the three colors I had chosen ( the other color being white, and I won’t bother listing those cards here ) and have a better mana curve for the deck.
And I will end this post by saying that there will not be another Magic block release till May, with a pre-release in April.

To make up for the Morningtide spoiler which was NOT, I have an updated link to a new spoiler below…

Magic’s Morningtide. December 23, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : TCG & CCG Card Games , 1 comment so farOkay, here is the information so far from the Wizards of the Coast site about the new expansion in the Lorwyn block of cards, ” Morningtide ”
Morningtide- Pre-Release Date-Â January 19-20th, 2008
The pre-release as always has a listing of where there will be tournaments in your area to be the first to play before the actual release of the set.
Morningtide Regular Release date is February 1st.
There are a couple of ” Card Previews “Â here.
Unfortunately, there really is no info as to a Morningtide Spoiler list as of yet, and I do apologize to everyone for the link that I had placed to a site that had a list up for the spoiler, with absolutely no real content concerning the spoiler.
Personally, I feel that once Wizards announces a new block release on their site, they ought to have the spoiler to go along with it. But that is just my feeling, and of course, Wizards of the Coast could care less about an old fanboy’s feelings.
Well, more info about Morningtide as I can get it.
To Magic Online or not to Magic Online, that is the dilemma! November 25, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : TCG & CCG Card Games , 3 commentsWell here we are!
It’s a Saturday night in anywhere, USA, and I want to play a game of Magic at 11:30 in the evening….what’s a fanboy to do?
Well, you could go to the Wizards of the Coast website and download the Magic the Gathering online game for free.
Of course, this isn’t the real dilemma…the dilemma for me and my friend Ken is about the cards themselves.
You see my friend Ken, has a problem with the idea of the digital card vs the actual physical card.
Now, for me, this is not an actual problem…my actual problem is …SPACE!
That’s right, the actual physical card takes up space, and if you happen to be a pack rat like me, someone who just hoards anything and everything ( never mind several boxes of Anime items that I have as inventory for my business ) and your actual, physical space is slowly diminishing, along with my wife’s wits ( Lew, your crap is all over the house! ) so while I am still buying cards from the new set Lorwyn and a couple blocks back, it will most assuredly please my wife not to bring and or add more clutter into my already crowded home.
So, what does Magic Online bring to the table vs just playing at your local ( if you have a local ) place that is DCI sanctioned for Magic…
First off, if it’s a physical card, it’s a digital card also.
Second, a online binder for you to keep all of your cards…and what does this mean…SPACE! That’s right, lots and lots of space to store cards. That’s right mom and dad, no more having to stack endless boxes of cards ( do you hear that dear! No more clutter….well from the cards at least) and the binder will make space for every set.
Third and in all honesty, the real reason why playing Magic Online is a great alternative, is of course ” Sanctioned, Premier Events ” like for instance the ” Onslaught Block Sealed Deck ” Tournament this coming Tuesday ( although 6AM might be a bit early for some ) this is just one of several events scheduled for this coming Tuesday.
If you are a player who lives somewhere where there is not a local store that is DCI sanctioned ( like me ) this is the way to go, on top of the fact you can always get a pick up game pretty much whenever or just practice with a deck that you have made, and I know that there is a pretty big community here also.
And to show just what you can do by playing online, here is a story about Grand Prix winner Paul Cheon to click and read about.
And that’s the dilemma in a nutshell, physical cards take up space, but digital cards don’t, well unless you exchange your digitals for real physicals, but I’ll let you find out about doing that on your own.
