Iron Man Kicks Off The Summer Blockbuster Season! May 12, 2008

This Friday, Iron Man will be kicking off a very busy Summer Movie Season!
Here’s a list of some of this Summer’s must see movies….
Iron Man - May 2nd- I think this will become Marvel’s Hottest movie franchise.
Speed Racer - May 9th- While the previews I’ve seen so far seem great, I have to think that this movie will appeal more to my generation, who grew up on this cartoon than the average movie goer…although what might help this movie along is the fact that IDW is currently publishing a new Speed Racer comic.
Chronicles of Narnia-Prince Caspian - May 16th -I say this movie is a winner, and I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment and the premise of the movie is just great also.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - May22nd- Did I really see that it’s been 20years since the last Indiana Jones movie? I have only seen one trailer for this movie, but this is Harrison Ford in what is argue-ably his greatest role ever!
Incredible Hulk- June 13th-I’m out on this one kids…I’m still questing the re-boot of the franchise in the first place.
And of course, on June 27th, we have two movies opening up…one that I’m really excited about seeing namely Wanted and the Disney Pixr collaboration Wall-E
and while there are a few other movies opening in July, I think we can all say that all eye’s will be on the Dark Knight, with the final performance of Heath Ledger as a maniacal Joker
Well, still writing from my hospital bed, this is what I’m looking at for my Summer viewing Season….the only real problem is with the price of gas heading toward ( or in some cases ) already past the $4 dollar mark, it will make the choices much tougher to swallow!
I Am Legend-The Movie-My Thoughts April 7, 2008

It’s been almost three weeks now since I viewed this movie with the wife, so while the movie is not as fresh in my mind as it was after the viewing, I will do my best to review the movie anyway…
Will Smith has the title role as Robert Neville a ( Military ) virologist who believes he is the last surviving human, not affected by a virus that was supposed to be a cure for cancer, but instead turned into a viral catastrophe that changed other humans into mutants ( no, not X Men Mutants ) and Neville believes only he can cure mankind.
So this is basically the story of Neville’s battle to find the cure for the mutant virus, and survive through the night when the mutants leave their hiding places to hunt for anything not affected by the virus, which just happens to be Neville.
Okay, first, in the adaptation that I read of Richard Matheson’s literary novel, the infected humans are not turned into mutants, but rather Vampires, and again, in the adaptation Neville is captured by a group of humans not affected by the virus, who want to use Neville as a cure because his blood is resistant to the virus.
While these little twists to the adaptation I had read really did not affect what I thought of this movie, they were ( for me anyway ) noticeable changes. Aside from this, Smith’s performance carries the movie, and he really makes you believe that he is the only survivor of this viral catastrophe, and the special effects do not overpower Smith’s performance, but rather enhance it.
With flashbacks, showing how the virus mutated, to showing New York City being evacuated, you can feel the sense of urgency that the movie’s plot is supposed to elicit in the viewer.
Smith’s Neville in the end sacrifices himself in order to save a young woman and her son, but not before giving her what should be the cure to the virus, which she takes with her to a sanctuary town which is populated by people who somehow survived the spread of the virus.
All in all, this was a good movie to watch, with Smith giving an excellent portrayal of a man who thinks he is the last surviving human, in a New York that is devoid of human life in the daylight hours, while just trying to survive the loneliness and the memories of the family he lost, while trying to keep his own sanity and humanity.
The Incredible Hulk..Was A Remake Really Necessary? March 26, 2008
Posted by 54071 in : Comic Movies , 1 comment so farOkay, question of the day…Was A Remake of The Incredible Hulk Really Necessary?
I Think not!
What’s that, I doth protest too much you say…well of course I do…that’s why your here reading this post isn’t it?!
Okay, I’ve seen the trailer for the movie and it looks like the movie is going to be okay ( not sure if it warrants a $10 ticket thou ), and I have nothing against Edward Norton as an actor, and I’m not saying that he won’t be a good Bruce Banner, what I am saying is they could have used Eric Bana again?
One thing I did notice was a scene or( maybe two ) that paid direct homage to the Incredible Hulk television series that featured Bill Bixby and Lou Feriggno, where Bixby’s Banner is sitting in some sort of a reclined chair with some sort of machinery surrounding him, and also a scene where they take a tight closeup of Norton’s face ( the eyes to be exact ) when he goes thru the change into the Hulk.
And as far as the Hulk himself goes, okay he looks alot shorter in this outing, but I really had no problem with the original Hulk in the first movie ( yeah, so what if he was 15 feet tall! ) I mean how many different incarnations of the Hulk have we been witness to over the years ( never mind that now we are reading a comic called The Hulk ) and that in his latest incarnation, he just happens to be… RED!
And the Abomination…come on now!
With all we are able to do with CGI now, the best they could do was give us an over grown, over muscled, Zombie-esque type of creature?
Well, again, my first choice of movies to see in the Summer movie season is Iron Man ( and I just noticed that Downey Jr. is supposed to be in the Hulk movie ) than it becomes a toss up for me as to the Hulk movie or the next Bat movie, but I see myself ( as I have already stated earliar ) seeing the Bat movie first, just to pay homage to Heath Ledger.

DC’S New Frontier-The Movie-My Review March 3, 2008

On Tuesday of this week, with great anticipation, I drove to my local Best Buy store and picked up my copy of DC’s new release based on Darwyn Cook’s story Justice League New Frontier.
I’ve watched this movie twice now, the second time with my wife, and I have to say that I was not disappointed by this adaptation.
First, let me say that I highly recommend this DVD and second…do not read any further because there are spoilers ahead…
The main focus of New Frontier is not the Trinity…Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but rather on Barry Allen aka the Flash, John Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter, and Hal Jordan who would become Green Lanturn.
Against the backdrop of the McCarthy hearings, suspicion of anyone who wore a mask at the time would eventually make those heroes who wore masks either to go underground or just fade from the public eye.
Brought to Earth by accident when a scientist sends a message beam to Mars, John Jonzz the Martian Manhunter hides his identity from others by the use of his ability to take on the guise of others thru shape shifting. In his guise as a detective working in Gotham City, he makes an alliance with the Batman, both crime fighters trying to discover the secret behind the mystery of the Centre…a mystery started in a novel written by a writer who later commits suicide after completing his book.
Barry Allen aka the Flash is a hero who thinks he is just second rate against the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman and the Batman. He none the less always answers the call when an innocent person is in danger from the criminal element, but after almost being taken prisoner by his own government, the Flash makes a television announcement that he is retiring from crime fighting, and wishes everyone well.
Hal Jordan’s story is woven throughout New Frontier…Hal’s story is the story of a pilot who’s dream is to see the stars first hand…little does he know that he will get to see those stars…firsthand..because of a ring he receives from a dying Green Lantern named Abin Sur.
Abin Sur has been looking for Jordan for several days before Jordan finally, inadvertently finds him…but Abin Sur is dying, and before he dies, he gives Hal his power ring, explaining to Hal who and what he is. Hal tells Abin Sur that he does not think he is brave enough to be given the ring…Abin Sur tells Hal that he is indeed brave, and that he is deserving of the ring, because Jordan’s will is strong and he is fearless.
My main reason for enjoying this movie was the fact that the big three ( Superman, Wonder Woman, & Batman), actually have ( in my opinion ) minor roles in this story in comparison to the aforementioned other three, and Cooke’s story has been adapted well for this movie.
I bought the two disc special edition which includes a Legion of Doom documentary, a featurette paying homage to the new frontier, and if you haven’t caught the preview on line already for the new Batman Anime coming from DC in the near future, it’s included in this DVD set.
Also included in this special two disc set is a miniature of Hal Jordan in his era green lantern suit.
All in all, this is a great pkg and I highly recommend this DVD movie.
New Batman Anime from DC due this summer… February 16, 2008
Posted by 54071 in : Comic Movies , 2 commentsI came across this post just a little while ago from the blog ” The Blog of Los ” which showed this trailer from a new Batman Anime project from DC Animation called ( wait for it …) Batman..Gotham Knight.
First, the trailer alone for this new DVD has made up for the fau-pau made in another Dan DiDio interview that was posted here, so what exactly are we talking about here…
The powers that be at DC have decided to take the Batman character and lend him to the field of Japanese Animation ( Anime for anyone who isn’t familiar ) and what this trailer shows basically ( for me anyway ) just might be the REAL hit of the summer movie season, and this has me very excited indeed.
With the release of DC’s ” New Frontier ” coming out next week, and this new DVD coming out this summer, I’d say DC is really on track to have an excellent summer season and taking all the fanboys along for the fun ride.
The trailer for this is here
Watch and enjoy!

I never thought I’d say this about…. December 2, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : Comic Movies , 1 comment so farIt’s Sunday night and I thought I’d take a quick tour of some sites, and I came across some more new Batman pics, and I never thought I’d say this about Batman but this new Batman movie as far as I’m concerned is just gonna suck!
Period. The End!
These new pics are at John Bierly’s blog, and if you have been looking at John’s blog lately, you will see the comments I have been leaving there as far as this new Bat film goes, and of course some of my own comments here, but after I have seen these pics, I have to say I am just totally thru with this particular Bat outing.
The design of the Bat suit isn’t terrible, but certainly not great.
And while the design of the Joker suit is just fine, Ledger’s makeup as the Joker just is not!
I will NOT be seeing this movie in any theater next summer, and will be a RENTAL only, and that’s after I have seen everything else I have wanted to see first.
Period.
And I will say again…The movie to beat next Summer will be….
IRONMAN
Robert Downey Jr, is Tony Stark, and I say this just from seeing the same movie trailer several times now.
And while I’m talking about movies I want to see and know will be worth my $10-$12 ticket is the new Tim Burton film Sweeney Todd- The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
