Sex And Your Comic Book:Part1 The Female Figure

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

I started noticing the female figure at the very young age of sixteen…and I’m sure that there are some of you who may have noticed it a bit earlier than that.

I have come to appreciate the female figure for it’s beauty and sensuality, it’s lines and curves and aesthetics.

Over the past few years, I have seen this same female figure represented by the the female characters and the superheroines in our comic books slowly change…the female physique has changed from the description above to at times the things you can find in any male sex oriented magazine.

And my thought here is..is this a good or a bad thing, and just how do we as Americans feel about all of this.

Think about this for a minute…When you go into your local comics shop and peruse some of the latest titles, just how many of these comics catch your eye due to a provocative, scantily clad female figure on it’s cover?

Now, listen…don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying that I do not stop and take a good hard look at some of these covers…but do they influence you into buying a comic that you might normally not even be interested in picking up?

I think the answer here is..quite possibly yes, it can.

DC Comic’s Powergirl issue#7

Take a look at the coming issue of Powergirl issue#7…this cover is probably on the tame side, but here is a girl with a set of breasts that you could more than likely find in one of those aforementioned adult magazines, and just how does she move in that form fitting outfit anyway.

I just finished Detective Comics issue#857 which is currently featuring the Batwoman.

I did not start reading this comic because of Batwoman’s figure…but as I’ve continued to read the comic, I have to admit that the Batwoman’s figure isn’t too hard to look at, and the story doesn’t hurt the comic either.

I had read a comic from Marvel Comics many years ago, the comic was Red Sonya and while I remember that I was into the comic because there was a connection with the Conan series..now Sonya is part of the Dynamite stable of characters along with another femme fatale, Jungle Girl, a sort of Shanna wanna be…

Junglegirl with art by one of the best female figure artists ever Frank Cho, who is also responsible for this…

Is there something in the above pic that

” Hangs Out ”

there for you?

And here is one of the latest pics from Red Sonya below…

Dynamite’s Red Sonya, Chain mail and all!

So, what are you thinking at the moment?

Is this okay with you?

Is this a perfectly acceptable direction for comics to be headed these days?

Would you buy a Red Sonya comic for the story or just for the art..or both?

Be honest with yourself now…As Americans is this acceptable for our comics and our sensibilities?

Well, this is just the first of many questions I want to ask…in part two I want to know…Would You Take Your Ten Year Old Into Today’s Comics Shop?
