Hi Everyone!
As I said on Wednesday…there is a method to my madness when it comes to deciding just what comics I ultimately wind up saying ” Yay and Nay ” to…
This past Wednesday, in my only comic book hangout, Main Street Comics, I found my self with at least eight (8) comics in hand…and a tough decision as to what is leaving the shop…and what wasn’t.
So, eight comics in hand… how to decide…actually ” How Do I Decide? ”
First off, as I’ve stated over several different posts on this blog, I’m not a big fan of the ” Crossover ” storyline, which basically takes one storyline and spreads ( or in my opinion ) Sprawls it out over several Different titles to basically tell the tale..I’ve always disagreed with this practice, as it forces the comic book purchaser to buy several comic titles that he or she may not normally purchase just for the sake of following what usually turns out to be a mediocre storyline.
One of these story lines is the ” New Krypton ” story that has spread out to Action Comics and Supergirl, while the main Superman title, now features ” Mon-El “.
I actually had the newest issues of Action, Supergirl and the Superman: New Krypton comics in hand…and Wednesday, unceremoniously decided that I had had enough of this and put them all back along with the decision to stop reading the storyline.
I’ll wait for the trades and decide if I want to commit the bucks to it.
Another title that I had in hand is a comic I only just started to get into after a very, very long time…Daredevil
I only started to read this comic again because of the ” Return of the King ” storyline…now my dilemma here is that I’m interested in the outcome from that storyline..Matt Murdock, Daredevil leading the Hand!
Of course there is still the threat of the Kingpin and Lady Bullseye…but I put this one back..because there were several of the comics still on the shelf and I decided to wait till the following week and see if there was still a copy available then.
Batman & Robin…this was an easy decision to make…I’m not in love with this title in the first place and if I have to choose between any ” Blackest Night ” title that I’m currently reading vs this comic coming home…no contest ..Batman & Robin…back to the shelve you go!
Hellblazer and House of Mystery…these were tough choices for me to make..I love reading both titles and it was really hard choice to put both of these titles back on the shelve…this was purely done because of the money factor.
I’m hoping that both comics are available next week.
Okay, so I think I’ve pretty much laid out my thoughts for what makes it home on any given week and what might not and why..
- Is the comic running a storyline I find worth reading?
- Is there a chance that the comic will be available in a week?
- Is it a crossover storyline running through several comic titles?
- Can I afford to actually take this comic home?
And I realize that we always have the option to just ask our friendly comic shop owner if they would hold a comic for us, but over the years I have come to realize that you wind up having that comic shop owner holding inventory and in turn unavailable cash until you or I decide that we have the money to pick up all the titles we have asked the comic shop owner to hold onto..and in this day and age, when comics cost at least $3.00 or more, if you have let’s say 5 or more comics on hold that cash starts to add up…not fair to the comics shop owner, and quite possibly tough on your wallet.
Okay, so that’s the end to this second part of Comic Book Wednesday…but how do you decide what comics coming home and what’s not?
I’d love to hear from you!
Please leave your thoughts and comments here.
Thanks, your uncle Fanboy!
