Remember that little tidbit back in the mid seventies about the rock band Kiss, a label that at the time to my recollection was brought about by some religious group, due to the band’s outrageous appearance, the costumes and kabuki style makeup…which the band still deny to this day…but the rock band super heroes were not the only people that had a lable attached to them, that was brought about by some religious group…

If you were a kid ( or child, if you will ) and you were playing Dungeons & Dragons…well depending on your parents particular religious preferences, you might very well have ended up burning in hell, just because you were role playing a goblin mage who just happened to have a chaotic penchant.

I sometimes wonder if being religious means you shouldn’t be able to have any fun at all. I mean was pastor John just such a stick in the mud that he had to rain thunder and lightning down on little jimmy, who just happened to play a human warlock?

Okay, your all probably asking what are you trying to get at uncle fanboy?

I’m talking about the idea that religion and the moral majority here in the good old U.S. of A, always seems to have only our best interests at heart when they go after something that we just happen to like a whole heck of a lot and that they seem to despise because it doesn’t fit into their strict view of what is proper or not.

How about when we went after rock & roll music…remember your parents saying to you ( and yes even me, and yes even me with my daughter! ) what is that c..p…oh, I’m sorry the word back there is CRAP!

And when society said that comics were bad for us, we even wasted tax dollars on a commission and a trial!

Yes kids, comics on trial, who would have thought.…well maybe the minister, who influenced the representative who actually had Superman and Captain America put on trial!

Okay, I know what your thinking…where is all this angst coming from uncle fanboy and why are you so defensive today about all of this…well because I remember several years back ( and in this case for several years back for me is around thirty to forty years back…) when I was learning to draw by using paperback book covers of star trek featuring James T Kirk to the aforementioned Superman, Batman, and Captain America comics ( to name just three! ) I had some 6th grade teacher who would constantly torture me ( and by torture I mean embarrasses ) in class, in front of all my class mates about what I was doing, and that it wouldn’t help me in the real world, among several of her rants about politics, science and the Viet Nam War.

This person was actually using her world views to tell me what was right and wrong for me, thru her belief system. And people would also tell me that the particular music I listened to at the time I as growing up, was not the right rock & roll to listen too either.

What I am getting at here in this post is the play what you like, listen to what you like, and enjoy your life more starting today!

Read a comic, play a game of magic or D&D with your friends, write a blog or watch an Anime series that you like!

Do what you like to do as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, and don’t let someone else’s notions of conformity sway you from what you like to do okay.

Make your uncle fanboy happy.
