It’s officially Wednesday, the 14th of May and I felt that it was time to tell my story now…
I should first preface this piece by stating that as I look out side my hospital window, I see that the day is bright with a touch of a breeze in the air ( at least from what I can see from outside my window with the flag blowing lightly in the wind), and I should also unequivocally state that I hate doctors and hospitals in general. Part of why I hate hospitals has to do with what I went thru with my Mom last year of which you can read about here…and after this happened, I naturally developed a phobia with doctors and hospitals in general, but in my stay here at this hospital, I feel the need to talk about the care and understanding I have received here, because I would be very derelict in not doing so….and so here we begin….my story….
Last Tuesday, I had called with brother in arms Ken Beecher to please come and take me back to the local urgent care unit that I had been visiting. This is where all my new doctors were out of. When Ken came to my home I was in very bad shape and when I got to the urgent care unit, I was taken in immediately. I lost track of time but Ken had waited their for me for better than 4 hours. They had hooked me up with an IV unit to get fluids into me, and sent me on my way with a prescription for a special med to take for stomach pain along with Mylanta, as needed, and I was told to be on a ” dairy Diet “, sorry but I had no clue what that was really but I had asked before I left and was told that I should be eating things like broth and toast and crackers.
Wednesday and Thursday, my condition with my stomach had gotten much worse, and Friday, my daughter Samantha, had taken a day off from her job to take me back to the urgent care unit. Needless to-say, I finally had my real nightmare come true….I was on the way to the hospital in an ambulance…the hospital I was taken to is called ” Horton Hospital “, in my home town of Middletown.
I was in bad shape when I arrived here, with what wound up being a case of Phenomia in my lower left lung, and severe pain in my upper chest from my gurd problem ( which I have had for about 7 years now ) the wind up was that night, they set me up for several tests including a cat scan of my stomach with contrast ( mind you at this point in time, I couldn’t lay on my back to save my life! )
I had a great team of Doctors from Crystal Run Medical consulting on my case, and while this was all well and good, I feel that I would be remiss, and cannot say enough about the nursing staff and other support people, that watched over my care and well being while I was at Horton. From Respiratory Therapists, to just the staff who would bring up my meals, all the souls that I came across were nothing less than professional and considerate in my care, and to my amazement, there was no request to little for a nurse, or an aide to help me with.
I have met alot of fine people here, unfortunately, I could not place a name to every-face that has crossed my path while recuperating here at the hospital.
The bottom line here is, I will be leaving and headed home in a few more days, but when I do leave here, I will remember all the faces who have crossed my path, and will always be grateful to them all for all of their caring and help…and I just want to say to all of you, that this little post cannot come close to saying thanks for everything that you all did for me…as a matter of fact, this is probably the smallest way that I can show my appreciation to all of you here at Horton, who deserve something much larger than this small post to say thank-you.
Sincerely Yours
Lew Newmark
