Hulk-What a Tangled Web Loeb and McGuiness are Weaving! April 24, 2008

Posted by 54071 in : Comics , 1 comment so far

Oh Lucy…you got some ” splaining to do ” …

I Love Lucy a side, there is definitely a tale to be read here being woven by the ever talented Jeph Loeb, with fantastic accompanying drawings by one of my favorite artists, Ed McGuiness, whose pencil talents I first came to appreciate during his run on DC’s Batman/Superman ” Worlds Finest “.

And I have to tell ya I’m just a bit confused here with the beginning of this little series, I had heard the rumours of this new “Red Hulk “, and I was like Huh???

I mean, I’ve seen Grey, and I’ve seen Green…I’ve seen Rampaging, and I’ve seen Bestial, I’ve also caught the Intelligent Hulk (probably my Favorite interpretation ever ), and of course who could forget the Las Vegas ” Mr. Fixit ” Hulk…so I’d thought I’d seen it all okay…and then they throw this at me…I mean, what do they want from me!

What ever it is, I’m gonna give it to them, as long as the story continues to twist and turn and intrigue…

But what characters have we seen so far….

In issue #1 we get to see Doctor Leonard Samson ( that’s Doc Samson to you! ) along with Jenifer Walters, the She Hulk, and one Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Director of Shield ( at least for the moment, anyway ) on a mission in Russia ( of all places ) investigating the murder of Emile Blonsky, that’s the Abomination, just in case you forgot, by one Red ” Hulk-ish Creature “. Of course this trio, along with one General Thunderbolt Ross ( why isn’t he dead by now ! ) and Shield Commander Hill, run into some resistance to their investigation by the ” Winter Guard “, and of course the obligatory brouhaha…and did I mention a small appearance by one Rick Jones, in of all places, the frozen wastes of Alaska!

Okay, I’ve read issues 1&2 now and I’m moving onto issue #3 right after I finish this post, so while this isn’t supposed to be a review, I will say that if you’ve read other issues and stories with the Hulk, don’t stay away from this series run, I think your dollars will be well spent and you’ll be well rewarded!

NY Comic Con-Saturday April 19th April 23, 2008

Hey there!

A day late and a dollar short.

I apologize to everyone for this being late, but due to some recurring health issues ( chronic COPD and Asthma ) I have been really under the weather lately.

Well, this was my first ( and possibly Last ) comic con…I’ll give you my impressions of it all..

First, I should state here that at the ripe old age of 50, I really don’t like crowds ( I know, if I really don’t like crowds, what was I doing going to an event like this in the first place? ) well, I actually went to this just for the express purpose of meeting my distributor, AAA Anime in the flesh, and talk a bit of business…of which I did. I finally met my rep from AAA and it was nice to put a face to the voice, and while we did talk a bit about the Anime Figure business, there really were not any real gems of knowledge to be taken away from this impromptu meeting…needless to say I was a bit disappointed…and I was also hoping to walk away with a gift of two and did not…they would be giving away some leftover items to attendees on Sunday, and of course I would not be getting any loot that way!

So, aside from being prodded thru a line like cattle ( my friends and I joked about waiting for someone to get out a cattle prod to move us along ) I will admit there was a lot of neat stuff to see, and I was like a kid in a candy store…from looking at different figure displays from companies like Kotobukiya to Diamond Select, and of course all the comic companies, but truth tom tell, the highlight for me was when we were standing on line waiting to get into the facility, who gets escorted in but Stan ” The Man ” Lee…. I shook his hand and said hi…and I’ll always remember that moment…because for me it made the show for me.

Good Morning Everyone.

I will have a post later today about my first experience with the New York Comic-Con, plus later this week I will be diligently working on wrapping up my review of Ergo Proxy. I actually had to start to look at the whole series again to gain that experience of watching the series again.

Talk to all of you later..

Death Note-Book 1 April 18, 2008

Posted by 54071 in : manga , add a comment

What would you do if you were walking down a local street in your neighborhood and just happened to come across what looks like a black student note book?

Well, if your a 17 year old named Light Yagami you pick it up, even though the cover on the book says Death Note, and this book was left by a Shinigami ( or I like to say DEMON ) named Ryuk, who just happened to drop the book here on Earth because he was bored.

And thus begins the opening salvo of Death Note published by Shonen Jump, a story that involves not just Light and the Shinigami Ryuk, but also a detective unknown to anyone just named L….but I should elaborate just a little about what happened after Mr Yagami takes said Death Note to his home….

Light finds out how to use the note book with Ryuk’s help of course…it seems that if you write someone’s name down in this note book, they will die, but only as long as the person who has written the person’s name in the book has the person’s face in their mind when writing in the book…if a cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, their death will happens as written…if their death is not specified, they will die of a heart attack…after writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written within the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

The question is does the book really work or is it just a gimmick…well let me just say that not only does the book work, but light finds a unique way of using it…to better society…for the greater good of all…Light writes down the names of criminals, and he starts to experiment with what he can and can not do with the book, and this is what brings in the mysterious detective named L with his servant named Watari, who always seems to be dressed in a trench coat, carrying a laptop with which L is able to communicate with the local police force.

Well, I do not intend to give this whole thing away, but so far I have found the first book in this series interesting, with an excellent story written by Tsugumi Ohba, and fantastic artwork by Takeshi Obata

And for me it’s on to book #2

Batman Black & White- Jim Aparo April 17, 2008

This is my favorite listing, because I always  thought Aparo’s Batman was the best Bat ever to grace a comics page period.

The popular BATMAN: BLACK & WHITE line of artist-inspired statues continues!
This rendering of the Caped Crusader is based on the cover image from
DETECTIVE COMICS #443, drawn by longtime Batman artist
Jim Aparo.
Painted in monochromatic tones, this statue is certain to be another sought-after addition to DC Direct’s line of BATMAN: BLACK & WHITE statues.
The statue measures approximately 6.5″ tall x 8″ wide x 5″ deep. It features a logo-shaped base, and is packaged in a black-and-white box.

has gone to the extreme limits to bring us the puuuurrrr-fect queen of the jungle.
But be warned! Sharon is on the hunt, tempting her prey in ever closer before she pounces… and her next victim could be you!
Think you can resist? Momo also comes with a interchangeable torso, turning this pretty kitty into a voluptuous vixen.

Nugent’s Love Grenade April 15, 2008

Posted by 54071 in : Uncategorized , add a comment

Just in case you think that the Motor City Madman doesn’t have anything to offer the world as far as music goes…think again!

Uncle Ted ( Nugent ) is back with a vengeance on this 2007 release as a follow up to Craveman, and my favorite track so far is the title opus ” Love Grenade “, and while I really do not want to review the album, I do want to say that it is great to hear the Nuge in top form, and even greater that he has been around this industry for 5 decades now and doesn’t seem to have mellowed or disavowed any knowledge of his previous actions as far as his rock and roll roots go…take that Def Leppard!

NY Comic Con!

This Saturday is the NY Comic Con at the Jacob Javitts Center in Manhattan. I will be attending, and hooking up with my distributor AAA Anime to talk business and see what is what as far as new figures being released, and I’ll probably bag a few Comic Con Exclusive items possibly to offer to you folks down the road.

This is my first con, and not sure what to expect but I do intend to have a great time, and as of this writing the weather promises to co-operate also!
