To Magic Online or not to Magic Online, that is the dilemma! November 25, 2007

Well here we are!

It’s a Saturday night in anywhere, USA, and I want to play a game of Magic at 11:30 in the evening….what’s a fanboy to do?

Well, you could go to the Wizards of the Coast website and download the Magic the Gathering online game for free.

Of course, this isn’t the real dilemma…the dilemma for me and my friend Ken is about the cards themselves.

You see my friend Ken, has a problem with the idea of the digital card vs the actual physical card.

Now, for me, this is not an actual problem…my actual problem is …SPACE!

That’s right, the actual physical card takes up space, and if you happen to be a pack rat like me, someone who just hoards anything and everything ( never mind several boxes of Anime items that I have as inventory for my business ) and your actual, physical space is slowly diminishing, along with my wife’s wits ( Lew, your crap is all over the house! ) so while I am still buying cards from the new set Lorwyn and a couple blocks back, it will most assuredly please my wife not to bring and or add more clutter into my already crowded home.

So, what does Magic Online bring to the table vs just playing at your local ( if you have a local ) place that is DCI sanctioned for Magic…

First off, if it’s a physical card, it’s a digital card also.

Second, a online binder for you to keep all of your cards…and what does this mean…SPACE! That’s right, lots and lots of space to store cards. That’s right mom and dad, no more having to stack endless boxes of cards ( do you hear that dear! No more clutter….well from the cards at least) and the binder will make space for every set.

Third and in all honesty, the real reason why playing Magic Online is a great alternative, is of course ” Sanctioned, Premier Events ” like for instance the ” Onslaught Block Sealed Deck ” Tournament this coming Tuesday ( although 6AM might be a bit early for some ) this is just one of several events scheduled for this coming Tuesday.

If you are a player who lives somewhere where there is not a local store that is DCI sanctioned ( like me ) this is the way to go, on top of the fact you can always get a pick up game pretty much whenever or just practice with a deck that you have made, and I know that there is a pretty big community here also.

And to show just what you can do by playing online, here is a story about Grand Prix winner Paul Cheon to click and read about.

And that’s the dilemma in a nutshell, physical cards take up space, but digital cards don’t, well unless you exchange your digitals for real physicals, but I’ll let you find out about doing that on your own.
