Superman/Doomsday- My Review
Posted by 54071 in : Comic Reviews , add a comment
I have to say that this is not the first time I’m watching this DVD.
I wanted to give this DVD a fair chance considering the subject of the movie…Superman / Doomsday is an adaptation of the comics series done several years ago, which became a world wide phenomenon, and world class event, long before we took notice of the Death of Captain America.
First of course, taking the subject of Doomsday, and what was pretty much almost two to three years of story buildup and events, and boiling it down to just around 75 minutes really does not do the story justice, but for the uninitiated, this does deliver the goods in a condensed sort of manner.
Doomsday, is the unstoppable, alien killing machine that is found buried underneath the Earth’s surface, in an excavation undertaken by Lex Luthor’s Lexcorp ( something that was not part of the original plot in the comics ) and after killing several members of the expedition, and a few others along the way, the monster heads for Metropolis and his fateful showdown with the man of steel.
The battle between Doomsday and Superman is epic ( and I was watching this on a surround sound system ) so I was able to feel every punch, every window being broken and the earth shaking explosions. This I have to admit translated well from the comics and was not a disappointment at all…..but as I said before this is at best a watered down version of the whole tale…Eventually after several days ( or weeks maybe ) in a time of crisis, due to the mechanizations of the Toyman, Superman seemingly awakens from his death and bursts out of his grave-site to stave off the danger of the Toyman.
Superman comes to the rescue, but someone notices something might be amiss…and that someone is Lois Lane. In this adaptation, she and the man of steel are already involved in a serious relationship, which again I’m almost positive did not happen in the comics until much later, but I digress….Lois does some investigating and finds…..
Well, I don’t want to give the whole plot of this DVD away, so I think I’ll just stop right here, but I have to say, as a stand alone feature, if you are looking to possibly make this a purchase for a younger Superman fan, this would be a good purchase….but………if you remember the series several years ago, I think you might be a bit disappointed with this watered down version of the epic story.
I give Superman /Doomsday…3 stars for great animation and great production value and a decent enough adaptation.
Why am I seeing TV Commercials when I go to the Movies! September 23, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : Uncategorized , add a commentMy friend and I went to see ” Resident Evil Extinction ” at our local theater last night, and while the feature movie was fine, what wasn’t fine were the previews leading up to said feature.
First, the movie was supposed to start at 8pm….but what was I thinking, why should the movie start on time when you have to show me all of these previews for movies, and……….wait for it…..Television Commercials for new series coming on tv!
I don’t get it, do they do this because they realize they actually do have a captive audience?
That can be the only reason that I can figure out as to why I was being subjected to a commercial for ” Kane ” which I have already seen on CBS several times now!
Please, stop pissing me off and let me enjoy a movie will ya, if I wanted to see a tv commercial….why would I go to a motion picture to see said tv ads! If I want to see tv commercials…I’ll just stay at home and save myself the $10.00 adult ticket price!
Oh, and yes, the movie was just fine thank you.
And speaking of movies…..I’ll be reviewing for you Superman Doomsday on Tuesday, after I take another peak at it okay.
Iron Man gets Thor Thundering Mad! September 22, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : Comic Reviews, Comics , add a comment
Did you read this comic yet? No…well I finally moved it to the top of my pile of unread comics last night, and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Finally, Thor is starting to get interesting, with the humbling beat-down finally being put on Tony Stark, aka Iron man!
Thor arrives in New Orleans, and comes face to face with that city’s fate…he see the devastation to the city and realizes that had he been here several months ago, he could have changed the course of events and saved the city from it’s fate. He is told by a local man, one who has lost everything, that they don’t want ” his kind ” there and in anger, questions ” where were you when we needed you the most? ” Thor’s simple, but contemplative answer is ” I was dead ” to which the stranger becomes dismayed, and has no answer to Thor’s reply…but the Thunder God sees something in the man soul…
Iron Man at that moment, arrives in New Orleans to talk with his old friend, and also to apprise him of the nation’s current status as far as the heroes go, and gives Thor a ” directive ” to pick a side ( obviously hoping that the Thunder God will see his side of the conflict that is still effecting the marvel universe )…Unfortunately for him, Thor has his own agenda….Thor’s anger swells and shakes the heavens, as he shows his old friend what a thunder god is capable of and winds up pummeling Iron Man, and totally destroys his much vaunted armor by causing an Electro Magnetic Pulse.
Stark is sent back to Shield Headquarters, a shaken and humbled director.
Thor returns to the man who had been brave enough to let loose his anger about his current a situation….the Thunder God recognizes a fellow, lost , tormented soul, lying within this mortal…
” Yes, his soul is torn, his grief is terrible. ” ” But the grief is not just his alone…” ” and the grief of gods was never for mortals to bear.”
Then Thor tells the little girl who is with this mortal man to step away, ” There are some things never meant for mortal eyes to see ….”The Thunder God then raises Mjlionor, his vaunted hammer and raises a storm of lightning and thunder…and in this storm, Thor calls forth the soul of his friend Heimdall, ” Come forth. Live. Live again ”
Meanwhile, back at Shield Headquarters, Tony Stark is informed that Hi-Res imaging has picked up another presence on the ” Target “, said target being Asgard, floating eight feet above the Earth… ” OPS is asking for orders. What should we do about this sir?”
Stark’s reply…” Nothing. We let it go…” ” For Now…”
And thus ends issue 3 of Thor, a comic which has been moving a bit too slow for my liking in issues 1 and 2, but this issue more than makes up for the pacing of the last two issues, and just maybe…I’m starting to like the direction this series is going in. I can only hope that Straczynski can start to pace this series just a bit faster.
Comic Book Wednesday and Dracula. September 20, 2007

Hi there. Of course, yesterday was the usual comics pick up day
but I had a surprise awaiting me at ” Main Street Comics “, waiting for me was a
Marvel Essentials Tomb of Dracula Volume#1, and I cannot tellyou just how happy
I was to get this fat ( little? ) volume of nostolgia home. Unfortunatley, due to having
to take care of pressing L&K business, and trying to win a million on Deal or No Deal,
I was only able to flip thru the first couple of pages, but I will speak more of this trade
edition in the near future.
Things to come…Some Anime figures to look for in 08.

Magic’s new block of cards..Lorwyn September 18, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : TCG & CCG Card Games , add a commentHi there!
After all that I’ve been thru these past months, I finally had some of my friends over this past Saturday and played a few hands of Magic. We booster drafted, and after not playing in general for several months it was quite enjoyable.
And so while trying to get back into the swing of things ( if not very slowly) I think I will have to take the time to talk about Magic the Gathering’s new set Lorwyn, which is due to release on October 12th, with of course the usual pre-release tournaments at a DCI sanctioned card shop near you.
I’ll talk more about this set in a later post.
L&K Anime Oyaku Heaven New Figures and Some Important Info…. September 16, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : Anime Figures , add a commentHi There and good morning. I have listed a couple of ” Pre-sell items items at L&K, but I wanted to go over how the pre-sell items really work…
I get updated listings of new item solicitations from my vendor. When I get these solicitations, I go through them and decide what to list.
The thing with listing pre-sell items is that I and you my reader /customer have a limited window as to when you can actually purchase a pre-sell item that you might be interested in.
I can usually guarantee a customer that if they buy a pre-sell item before the item’s cutoff date that they will receive the item they purchase from me. If I leave a listing up, after it’s pre-sell date, two things are going to occur…
a) The item will go up in price after the pre-sell date
b) You might get a phone call or email stating that I could not procure your figure, due to when you placed your order and that my distributor might have been shorted on said item, which I have seen happen. I then will try to find your figure thru another vendor, and offer it to you, but it will be at a higher price point.
So, when you are looking at an item I have for sale as a pre-sell, please do not wait too long if you are really interested in the item, as stated above I have a limited window to order said item, and then, sometimes I might also pull the listing after the pre-sell cutoff date dependent on how the item has sold and if I think it will be hard to get after the pre-sell date.
Now here are the items I have put up with a few pics too.
Ikki Tousen Ryomou Kino Anim-Con Supergirl
Anim-Con Powergirl Avengers Captain America Women of DC Universe Cheetah
Okay it’s official! I have way too many comics to read! September 10, 2007
Posted by 54071 in : Comics , add a commentIs it possible that I actually have way too many comics to read?
The answer is a resounding… yes I do! I have a stack of several comics ( about 40 to 50 I would guess ) that are still unread.
Plus I bought the sencond issue of ” The Programme ” along with the trade edition of ” DMZ “….oh and did I mention I also picked up trade edition of ” The Eternals “, which of course is still in the shrink wrap, unopened. I haven’t even looked at any of the pages yet. I just got done finishing the new Namor series issue # 1. And yes I did finish the last issue of ” The Dark Tower, The Gunslinger Born “, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed with that ending. Maybe I’ll re-read it again.
I guess what I’m really saying is that I am starting to get back to business, if not a bit slowly, and as I am writing this post I just saw the commercial for the third ” Resident Evil ” movie, and I wouldn’t mind seeing that in a theater near me.
So, it’s time I got back to the grindstone. Tomorrow I will start doing some store listings and posting them here, and continue to go thru the stack of comics till it is managable again.
