Hi. I have been doing alot of reading and I even got to watch a new dvd from Geneon entertainment…..
Lets start with the Anime dvd from Geneon….Fate Stay Night- Advent of the Magi
Based on the japanese eroge visual novel game created and released by Type Moon in 04, the first dvd introduces the charecters, and explains the quest for the Holy Grail, which when found and won by one of the Masters, said Master and Servant can be granted one wish by the Grail.
Without going too much into this dvd, I felt a bit of a mix with the tales of King Arthur, and a bit of the first Highlander movie (” there can be only one “ ) and a lot of sword and weapon type brandishing.
While the anime figures based on this series are excellent, I will have to think a bit about actually taking a look at the whole series. I did come across a preview on the disk thou of an anime titled ” Ergo Proxy “, which really caught my eye ( and wound up buying the first 4 dvds last night ) and will start viewing today.
As far as comics go….
I am trying to be open minded, thus I am always looking for something different to read, rather than the usual superhero genre…
Fear Agent, originally from Image Comics, has made the jump to Dark Horse Comics, and is a series about Heath Huston, an Interplanetary, Alien killing exterminator spaceman who is not your average hero. He is more of an anti hero, who gets thru situations more thru sheer force of will, than any type of luck or skill. I was given an issue 2 print from Image, and I bought Fear Agent, The Last Goodbye#1 from Dark Horse. I read the Dark Horse issue, and I still have to read the Image issue. I like what I have read so far.
Dynamite Entertainment’s Lone Ranger comic has been a great read so far. It has stirred all of those old memories of the past, sitting in front of the tv on a Saturday with my grandfather and watching Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels reprise their roles episode after episode as the Ranger and his indian companion ( I started to write sidekick, and just felt that was an unfair description of Tonto )Tonto.
The first story arc focused on the origin of the Ranger and his releationship with Tonto. With great art provided by John Cassaday and the story expertly told by writer Brett Matthews ( notice how I almost always put the artist before the writer! ) this is a must read for any Lone Ranger fan who grew up on the old tv series, and if you didn’t, and just want something different from the usual superhero norm to read I highly recommend this series to you.
As far as the horror genre goes, while not a big fan of this type of comic, I have been looking at the 30 Days of Night series ( soon to be a movie directed by Sam Raime, and released by Columbia Pictures ) from IDW Publishing ( who also are responsible for the Fallen Angel series that I talked about in an earliar post here. The latest release in the series is called Eben & Stella. I am still deciding if I want to bother with reading this tale of supposed terror.
A series I will be reading very soon is called Rex Mundi, another series that was originally published by Image and later picked up by Dark Horse. I will be purchasing a three volume set of this book soon, and will have a review of the series soon after.
Okay, it’s time to leave you all for now. I’ll be back tonight with more stuff to talk about, including my list ( partial at best ) of comics I’ll be putting up for sale in L&K’S Anime Otaku Heaven.
