Sunday Musings April 29, 2007

It’s almost 7pm and I decided to take a quick look around the blogosphere and see what everyone is finding interesting and talking about as far as comics is concerned so……

Arron Albert ’s ” About Comics ” has a new  Spiderman 3 picture gallery up on his blog.

Around Comics has another installment of ” Life as a Freelancer ”

CBR News  has several ( mind you, there are posts here everyday! ) posts concerning new comic releases including Alien Pig Farm, Spawn#167( I haven’t read the Spawn series for several years now, but I picked up a Spawn one shot which I am due to review and put up for sale )and Image Comics Ward of the State #1 ( with a really H.P. Lovecraft ish covers!)

Polite Dissent ( which I made reference to in one of my earlier posts ) has another

” Picture Quiz ” and dont forget your dose of ” Psychic Nosebleed Zen ”

And one post that immediately caught my eye was at Tales from the Longbox with a post about a trailer for the new  Superman:Doomsday movie to be released sometime in September of 07!

Well, this is a short post, but expect a longer post about that Spawn one shot tomorrow.

Kutaragi Resigns from Sony! April 27, 2007

I read this story on  The Browser about Ken Kutaragi resigning from Sony amid Sony’s problems with low sales for the Playstation 3, and the other two consoles from Microsoft and from Nintendo having strong sales surges. Of course, the console wars are and have always been cyclic, and at one point early on, Nintendo was king. My personal opinion is that it was a mistake for Kutaragi to resign, and an epic mistake of Sony to accept his resignation. I think this will effect future plans for any new Playstation development, I mean after all, who better to design and continue to push a child forward and help it grow than it’s parent, and Kutaragi is certainly the father of Playstation.

Blogger & Podcaster Magazine Free Subscription April 25, 2007

I ran across an online magazine about the blogging industry while doing some related searches for basic blogging info on Darren Rowse’s Problogger.net called “Blogger & Podcaster Magazine.”

I have a link for the magazine below. The first issue has a great article about Robert Scoble, yes, that Robert Scoble of Scobleizer.com and the Scoble Show podcasts.

Now while this post doesn’t fall in line with what I generally write about, I think that if you are a blogger, a podcaster, or just looking to become one, than here is a magazine that will become what will later be termed an ” Industry Information ” leader, thus this post and the link below. You can even subscribe to the mag for free!

Batman #663 A tale in Prowse and Art April 23, 2007

I have been a Batman fan forever.

Period!

And I am not ashamed to admit that!

I have been reading the adventures of Bruce Wayne and his counterpart for many a year, and I have enjoyed many of his exploits, but today I read issue 663, written by Grant Morrison and painted visuals by John Van Fleet .

The story is about the Joker, while again incarcerated in Arkham, is having the killing of his older thugs and cronies, being done for him by Harley Quinn.

This particular story is broken down into ten separate vignettes, and while I usually can read a comic in less than 30 minutes ( well, between looking at the art and reading the storyline ) this particular comic took me an hour to finish, and I will probably re-read this one just to the pure enjoyment.

My feeling is that this is a tale that actually could have been  fleshed out a bit more and actually made into a graphic novel.

I was pleasantly surprised when two of the henchmen that were on the Joker’s hit list, were actually from another Batman tale, ” The Killing Joke “, which shows me that DC doesn’t just throw out it’s continuity.

All in all, this was an enjoyable tale of the Batman and his arch nemesis and might I add foil, the maniacal Joker.

Marvel Comics- Stephen King’s ” The Gunslinger “ April 22, 2007

I had intended to start this post almost three weeks ago, but ever got around to doing it so as usual, I’m playing catchup on a whole lot of everything so without further adieu…

Gunslinger #1 show us the beginnings of the Gunslinger named ” Roland ” from the ” Dark Tower ” series of books my the mind of Stephen King. I have never read the entire series of books from this series by King, but this new series from Marvel Comics based on the early beginnings of Roland has caught my fancy.

The series being written by Robin Furth, who does a lot of work for King and is the author of the series of ” Dark Tower ” concordances, and New York Times best seller Peter David.

Artwork is provided by Jae Lee ( Pencils ) and Richard Isanove ( Colors )

The story telling in issue# 1 are narrative and the art moody. I have issue#2’s cover waiting to be opened and the pages waiting to be read. More coming soon.

IDW’s Fallen Angel April 9, 2007

I not only read the comics I had intended to read, I also got to read the IDW trade series featuring the first 5 issues of Fallen Angel, the series originally published by DC comics, which they had canceled and was picked up by IDW.

Gliding through the streets of the fate-filled city of Bete Noire, the Fallen Angel has been a force both for good and evil. But her origins have remained as mystery-cloaked as the Angel herself… until now. See the truth of her background unfold for the first time as the most formidable opponent she’s ever faced tracks her down with an offer that she may not be able to refuse… even though, in accepting it, the life she knows may well be over. I’ve only got another 5 issues to read and catch up with.
