What I’m reading….. March 28, 2007

Posted by 54071 in : Uncategorized , add a comment

I am so behind on reading in general…..

So I have just finished a two part Ghost Rider featuring art by Corben. Unfortunatly for me it was a waste of time & good paper. I just got done reading ” Protoculture ” an anime mag that caught my eye the other week at my local Borders store, and it’s not a bad magazine all in all.

Good Evening All!

Well, now that I have the store being re-done to resemble something that will be more streamlined and fit what I am trying to have the store reflect, I want to talk about the changes that are going to happen.

The most important change is we are not going to be doing the ” Collectible Cards & Collectible Gaming Miniatures ” anymore.

We are going to focus on the ” Anime Figures ” end of the business because that is where we feel our expertise lies now.

We have a renewed commitment to our Anime Figure customers, and we intend to offer our products to our overseas customers again.

We have also instituted the ” My Store Rewards ” program again for our customers again. We believe that program was a win - win for everyone.

We will also be offering L&K ” Gift Certificates ” in the near future so stay tuned for that.

We are also going to tie in a little more anime info when available with our Anime Character listings.

In closing, I just want to say that L&K is changing things up, with a new name

L&K Anime Otaku Heaven

and a new mission

to be your

300 Top’s The Box Again! March 19, 2007

Well two weeks in a row and this film is just destroying everything else at the box office!

125 million over this past weekend. I just wonder how much of these sales are repeat movie goers?

” 300 ” posts box office triumph March 11, 2007

I took my family ( minus my wife-sorry hon! ) to see ” 300 “, and while my daughter really did not care for it, nor my Mom ( which pretty much means my wife would not have liked it either ) my daughter’s boyfriend Brett and I enjoyed it and my friend and sometime partner Chris liked the gore of the movie.

The acting in the movie was just excellent and actor Gerard Butler as king Leonidas was just marvelous.

The cinematography and special effects of the film were reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings films, but by and far the battle scenes in this movie far outshines anything I have seen on film in recent years. But I was able to walk away from this movie with something more than just an enjoyable evening at the movies….

there was in my own personal view, a very subtle statement that this film makes that is relevent ( if  you happen to be a conservative ) to todays political climate and makes me wonder if there wasn’t just a little conspiracy as to the timing of this films release…

” Spartans never retreat, never surrender ” and they are ” Freemen “, who fight for their people’s  ” Freedom !”

300 Spartans, stand their ground, stand beside their King, against what can only be viewed as ” Insurmountable Odds ” in the adversary King’s army of over a million persian warriors from different empires that he has conquered, and has taken control of.

I walked away from this film, with more than just a little bit of respect for all warriors, past and present, who stand by their ideals and their convictions, whether right or wrong!

It takes alot of courage to do that!

Go see Frank Miller and Warner Brothers film release, ” 300 “, and see if you don’t come away with a little more respect for those who stand by their convictions and ideals, no matter what the consequence.

Miller’s ” 300 ” opens today! March 9, 2007

Warner Brothers Pictures adaptation of Frank Miller’s opus ” 300 ” opens today in theatres and is being touted as the ” Movie Event of the Season “. Assuming that the season we are referring to is ” Summer “, there are two Marvel Films releases coming up which will give “300 ” some stiff competetion for summer box office dollars.

The first of these movies I refer to is ” Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer “, which totally had me mesmerized with just it’s trailer.

The second is what is fast becoming Marvel Films Franchise ” Spiderman 3 ” with the introduction of the

” Sandman ” and the introduction of charecter ” Gwen Stacy “, and Spidey’s encounter with a certain ” Symbiote ” black suit and of course, where there is a black, alien, symbiote suit, there is going to be ” Eddie Brock ” and we all know what’s going to happen here don’t we ?

It’s going to be a interesting box office summer!

There are a ton of new anime and anime figures that are coming out, with tie ins to your favorite anime, and some games and even a set of Warcraft Figures and a pretty good looking Wolverine figure being released soon, so lets start with the aforementioned….

WOLVERINE by Kotobiyuka

Wolverine

This is just classic Wolverine, in what has to be my favorite version of his costume to boot, and if your an anime collector, than you know of the quality and craftsmanship you get when you buy a figure from Kotobiyuka!

Queen’s Blade:Ekidona

Look at this

full figured babe from
MegaHouse!

Lamento:Beyond the Void-Asaio by Kotobiyuka

LAMENTO: BEYOND THE VOID is fantasy video game featuring neko characters (Cat Boys) facing the challenges of demons! From Nitro+, the makers of the smash hit TOGAINU NO CHI series, the renowned experts of the Yaoi B/L genre! LAMENTO has quickly become the best selling game in the ladies’ games market, even surpassing the sales of “True Blood”.

Well, I think that three to start this section out with isn’t too bad and I promise there will be more to come in the future.

Fanboy & L&K Collectible Cards & Comics.

Posted by 54071 in : Uncategorized , add a comment

I have always wanted a business of my own, so I started one several years ago called

L&K Collectible Cards & Comics.

L&K is something I have tried to grow for several years now, and while I am not rich from this business, it is all mine and I am proud of everything that I offer to customers on the Ebay ( yes, I know the dreaded Ebay!) store. So when I start to link things from L&K to this blog site, I want eveyone who reads and looks at them, to know that I stand behind what I sell, and I like you, I am just a big geeky Fanboy at heart and love the same things that you do.

A World Without Heroes…DC’S ” Kingdom Come “ March 2, 2007

Posted by 54071 in : Comics , add a comment

” Look….up in the sky…. it’s a bird…. it’s a plane…IT’S SUPERMAN! ”

Yes, I used to loved that simple statement and still do today. I think that when we think of iconic superheroes, the first name that rolls off our lips is Superman, but why is that?

Okay here comes my shameless plug now…one might only read the story of “ Kingdom Come ” to get the real answer to the above question….

As a baby, sent from the doomed planet Krypton, baby Kal-El, would be found by a kindly couple in the fields of Smallville, Kansas. The baby is adopted by this couple, Martha and Jonathan Kent, and the baby is raised as their own son. They name him Clark, and they teach him the lessons of right and wrong, and as Clark’s powers and abilities start to manifest under the Earth’s yellow sun, he is taught to use his abilities for the good of man. And thus, a legend is born…..

But is Superman infallible? Is he really like the rest of us? Is he something more?

In Kingdom Come, we get to see a different Superman, and a different view of the superhero in general. In this ” Elseworlds ” story, Superman and the rest of the superheros who pretty much comprise the Justice League are almost viewed as godlike, and due to this misconception, become detached from those they are sworn to protect. In the end, Superman leaves the world and it’s people to it’s own devices, after an incident with the hero called called Magog, who is responsible for the decimation of Kansas in an accident involving the ” Parasite ” and ” Captain Atom “. And when Superman vanishes, the old guard fade into memory along with him, leaving in their stead a new generation of heroes who while powerful, have no social conscience when it comes to using their powers for the good of mankind.

In essence, a world without ” True ” heroes.

What really strikes me here is the way the man of steel is portrayed….he is essentialy a recluse, working his family farm in what we are led to believe is Smallville, Kansas, but a visit from Princess Diana, Wonder Woman leads to a confrontation with Clark…Kal…and in pushing a hidden panel, it is revealed to us to actually be the Fortress of Solitude.

The one player, who is only human and yet plays an integral part in this story is Norman McCay.

A Human.

A man of god, who is witness to events that test his faith, and question man’s future.

He is witness to the re-emergence of Superman, and the League.

He is witness to a hero prison camp, for those who are deemed unworthy and are a detriment to mankind.

And the most compelling thing he is witness to is a hero who has lost his faith and leadership ability….

Norman McCay is witness to an all too human…Superman.

I don’t want to say too much more about Kingdom Come, other than the simple fact that it is one of the best tales ever written about Superman, and the DC universe and that is saying alot.

In my opinion, and remember I have been reading comics for better than twenty years now, there might be a handful of stories written between both Marvel and DC that are memorable and will stand the test of time , and if I were to make a list of those memorable reads, Kingdom Come would have to be number one, both in the way the story was written, and in the way the artist portrayed the story and makes it come alive for the reader thru his art.

Kingdom Come, will be a story that will stand the test of time, and will be relevant for many generations to come
